Session 1
Flag, Identify, Network, Deliver™ (FIND)
The FIND session of the Family Heart Global Summit featured presentations by Dr. Joshua Knowles, Dr. Brian Mittman, Dr. Amit Khera, Diane McDougall, and Daniel Himmelstein, an individual discovered through the FIND program.
To address the low rate of diagnosis for FH, the Family Heart Foundation launched the FIND FH® initiative in 2014, a key component of which is an extensively validated machine learning model that can recognize and flag individuals who look like they have FH by analyzing data in electronic health records. In addition, a collaborative learning network has been established and is facilitated by the Foundation to improve implementation through best practice sharing. The Family Heart Foundation is now partnering with multiple health systems to implement FIND FH to diagnose new individuals with FH and recently announced the launch of FIND Lp(a) to apply what we’ve learned to the Lp(a) population.
“When research innovations are published, the healthcare system is very slow to adopt those innovations. Typically it takes, on average, 17 years for them to reach the point of care, which, of course, is unacceptable. The field of implementation research is a response to that.”
– Dr. Brian Mittman
“The FLAG Identify Network Deliver Program, FIND, is all about what else after the machine learning was used.”
– George Blike
