Session 3
Lipoprotein(a): New Opportunities, Old Challenges
The Family Heart Global Summit session on lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), began with Bruce Gordon’s story of surviving a heart attack and living with high Lp(a). The session included presentations from Dr. Gisette Reyes-Soffer, Dr. Florian Kronenberg, and Dr. Alicia Lyle from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who discussed standardization of the assay for Lp(a). Dr. Henry Ginsberg from Columbia joined for the panel discussion and highlighted his own journey of living with elevated Lp(a).
“We have to improve our education of GPs, also specialists, and cardiologists. Many cardiologists simply neglect Lp(a), so we have to develop tools that I think Family Heart Foundation is doing a great job here. We try to do the same in Europe to bring that out and educate people, practitioners.”
