Session 6
Lipids and Cardiovascular Disease Across the Lifetime
Our session titled “Lipids and Cardiovascular Disease Across the Lifetime” featured the lived experience of Sydney Phillips and presentations by Dr. Mary McGowan, Dr. Eugenia Gianos, and Dr. Roger Blumenthal.
The discussion focused on cardiovascular disease and barriers to care for men and women across life stages – from screening in children to the value of treatment for the elderly.
“I'm extremely grateful for the aggressive treatment that I got once I got the correct diagnosis. And I'm even more grateful for the Family Heart Foundation and all the knowledge that I have gained from this organization. It's really empowered me to advocate for myself, advocate for my care and advocate for others. So thank you so much for listening to me and letting me be a part of the conversation.”
– Sydney Phillips
“The reality is that what we're dealing with is the same bread and butter disease in both men and women. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in both men and women. And somehow, with women, we tend to miss the boat.”
– Dr. Eugena Gianos
