Welcome Ceremony
Family Heart Foundation Founder and CEO Katherine Wilemon took the stage to welcome everyone to the ninth annual Family Heart Global Summit. “It is such a delight to see so many old friends after so long and to see so many new faces,” she announced. “Thank you for joining us in this historic hotel where in one of the rooms FDR wrote, ‘There is nothing to fear except fear itself.’ And I hope when you leave everybody will leave emboldened to think about what you can do to bring about change. I really have great hopes for this meeting together, but it all depends on us.”
This was the first year that the Summit has been held since the mission for the Family Heart Foundation expanded to include individuals with elevated lipoprotein(a) in 2021 and so this meeting marked the first time researchers, healthcare practitioners, and individuals living with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and elevated lipoprotein(a), also known as Lp(a), have convened in person. We brought together over 250 people to “look through a wider lens” to discuss practical solutions to bridging the gaps of a broken healthcare system.
