Global Efforts to Improve Cardiovascular Outcomes: Doing a Lot with Little
During the Family Heart Global Summit, we brought together healthcare providers from around the world for a panel discussion titled, “Global Efforts to Improve Cardiovascular Outcomes: Doing a Lot with Little.”
The focus of the discussion was FH and Lp(a) diagnosis and treatments efforts in various regions of the world. The panel included Dr. Shizuya Yamashita from Japan, Dr. Maxima Mendez-Castillo from the Dominican Republic, Dr. John Mancini from Canada, and Dr. Mutaz Al-Sabah from Iraq.
Despite the diversity of healthcare delivery systems represented by the panelists, common themes emerged of what is working well in individual regions/countries and could be applied globally to improve care for patients with FH and elevated Lp(a) – clear guidelines on diagnosis and treatment, universal screening for Lp(a), CV risk calculators which include Lp(a), national FH registries, and investment in public awareness campaigns.
