Familial hypercholesterolemia: Underdiagnosed, risks underappreciated; new treatments on horizon – Cardiology Today
In honor of Heart Month, Cardiology Today chose familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) for its cover story. Not long ago FH was hidden in the shadows, now it is featured on the cover of one of America’s most widely circulated cardiology journals. The article explores not only the devastating consequences of this genetic disease, but also raises the issue of its under-diagnosis and concomitant under-treatment. Current and future strategies are also explored. Almost as consequential as the very presence of FH taking center stage is the fact that of the five cited experts, four are members of the Family Heart Foundation’s scientific advisory board and board of directors.
