The Family Heart Foundation established Lipoprotein(a) Awareness Day in 2021 to raise worldwide attention to the impact of elevated lipoprotein(a), also known as Lp(a) (pronounced L-P-little a).

This March 24, we will use the power of our voices so that everyone understands why they should #KnowLpa. Through national and local media, as well as social media engagement, we will draw attention to this important inherited disorder and encourage everyone to join the movement by sharing and interacting with

Have you screened your Lp(a)?

Someone you care about may unknowingly be at-risk for heart attack or stroke. Yet, less than 5% of people are ever screened.

Standard cholesterol tests do not screen for lipoprotein(a) and there are no official guidelines for testing.

The Family Heart Foundation is here for you. We offer FREE at-home screening kits that can test your lipoprotein(a) and LDL cholesterol with a simple finger stick. Order your Cholesterol Connect test now.

🚨 Late Breaker from #EAS2025 in Glasgow, Scotland! New research by the Family Heart Foundation presented today by Dr. Børge Nordestgaard and simultaneously published in the European Heart Journal (@europeansocietyofcardiology), shows that any increase in Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] levels in individuals with cardiovascular disease increases the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke. Additionally - optimizing LDL cholesterol-lowering medication can help mitigate this risk. This research – the largest study ever conducted with people living with cardiovascular disease and who have a confirmed measurement of lipoprotein(a) – reinforces the critical importance of considering Lp(a) levels among other risk factors when determining an individual's risk of future heart attacks and strokes. At the Family Heart Foundation, we’re dedicated to helping clinicians, policy makers, and the public understand the risks associated with Lp(a) and to take action. As we progress in our mission, these findings represent a meaningful step forward in our ongoing efforts to better understand the impact of Lp(a) on one’s health.View publication or press release to learn more (click in bio):https://familyheart.org/lpa-recurrent-ascvd-events-2025
